We thought long and hard about what sort of gift to offer visitors to
our site. We're documentation specialists, so something related to documentation
seemed like a natural. But many of our clients and friends are either
developers or regular Windows users who have no personal interest in
documentation, and we didn't want to disappoint one group by pleasing
another.
Tricky problems
require creative solutions. We eventually realized that we could satisfy
everyone, and do it with a single gift that will please authors/developers
and casual Windows users alike.
...is
a utility for "grabbing" pixel colors from the Windows desktop
just by moving the mouse. It comes with a handy Windows palette and
grayscale gradient, and makes selection of even the most subtle custom
colors for HTML documents a snap. |
...is
a utility for unlocking hidden Windows Help functionality ranging
from custom colors for hotspot links to a secret "hotkey"
mode that can access hidden topics and improve browsability...you'll
even see helpfiles from the developer's perspective using "Help
Author mode". |

when installed, loads quickly, uses very little system resources, and
includes a thorough uninstaller. These utilities are our gift to you
for visiting our site, and you're free to share the complete archive
with anyone you like, or even post it on your own site.

One
final note about HyperPixel. The program starts with a "splash"
dialog that tells you a bit about the programs and about WritePoint. After
you've used the program a few times, you'll be able to get rid of that
screen forever, and the program will start at your last-used utility.
There's even an "Easter egg".
The program
also includes a clickable link to our Web site, but this is the only
Internet connectivity included in the software. It collects no information
about you, and won't even take you to our Web site unless you agree
to the prompt that appears when you click the link. Also, the software
should be completely non-intrusive. Once it has been uninstalled, no
trace of it should be left anywhere on your system, and Hyperpoint
makes no changes to significant WinHelp settings that you won't be given
the opportunity to undo before you uninstall.
We take your
privacy and comfort seriously, and nothing less than this degree of
attention to detail would do. After all, we wouldn't be very good at
helping users read developers' minds if we couldn't read our users'
minds ourselves.
