About this series:
Almost every career position demands a certain amount of writing, and virtually every career demands creative thinking. Creative writing is not just about haikus, but about being able to express yourself innovatively, coherently and in a way that will capture the curiosity and imagination of the readers. The goal of this course is to augment the abilities of those who are already successful writers, and to open a new world to those who are ready to take first or new steps into this area. Anecdotal research has indicated that the study of creative writing improves writing abilities in empirical writing, as well.
The sessions will teach how to enhance our written vocabularies, how to successfully use various styles and methods, how to write outside of the box (which leads to thinking outside of the box), writing in various genres, how to edit ourselves and rewrite, the reading/analyzing the work of authors and poets and of each other, and more.
The Creative Writing exercises chosen to be used in this course will reveal and enhance your natural writing abilities, leading to increased awareness ofyour talents and to the augmentation of your capacity for productive creativity.
You are a better writer if you are better reader, although there have been some exceptional writers who were so dyslexic that they could barely read. This is an indication that the ability to visualize and describe comes from somewhere inside us, and from our observations of the world around us, not just from our knowledge of literature. Reading more will enrich our style and vocabulary, and being an astute observer will enrich the content of our writing, so this course will also be about learning to observe and to use those observations in our writing.
